ACTIVITIES IN HANGKLIP
There are numerous activities in which guests can indulge themselves in Hangklip and its surrounding suburbs such as Pringle Bay, Betty’sBay, Kleinmond, and Hermanus.
Hoogwaterhuis is set on a nature reserve. It is home to Wildlife such as small antelope known as klipspringetjies, mongoose, ferrets, and baboons. There are also fish eagles and lots of bird life. The Hangklip region is well known for its bird watching.
1. Hiking and Walking
Take a leisurely walk on the beach know as Mast Bay or Hike up to the Hangklip Mountain for an awesome view of the Bay and Estate. You might encounter some of the indigenous Wildlife on your Hike – it’s a nature lovers paradise.
Mast Bay is well known for its fishing and on any given day one can see fisherman casting their lines off the beach and on the rocks below Hoogwaterhuis. Fish such as Galjeon and Yellowtail can be caught here.
Relax and tan on Mast Bay beach and go for a swim at Mauritius which is a rocky sheltered bay perfect for kids. Other nearby beaches include Grootbaai (a stunning beach just a few minutes walk from the house), Pringle Bay beach and Kleinmond beach.
There are numerous surf spots in the surrounding areas:
Grootbaai Beach, Pringle Bay Reef and Beach, Kleinmond Beach and the long beautiful beach of Kogel Bay just past Gordon’s Bay.
The Arabella Golf course is one of the finest in the region and caters for amateurs and will challenge professionals as well. It is a half hours drive from Hangklip on the outskirts of Kleinmond situated next to the Arabella Hotel.
6. Whale Watching
The area from Gordon’s Bay to Hermanus is a Whale watching paradise. Hermanus which is a 45-minute drive from Hangklip is known worldwide for the whales which visit every summer.
7. Art Galleries
There are some interesting Galleries and Curio shops in Pringle Bay
There are numerous restaurants in the surrounding area. The Hangklip Hotel and Plankies Bar are popular on weekends.
Pringle Bay caters for everything from seafood at Hake Away, Steaks and Burgers at restaurant 365 and the Lemon and Lime Deli for Cheeses and Wines.
There are also small supermarkets in Pringle Bay where you can buy supplies for self-catering.
9. Harold Porter Botanical Gardens
This beautiful Garden consists of 10 hectares of Natural fynbos. There are several kilometers of nature trails providing scenic sea and mountain views.
10. Stony Point Penguin Colony
Located on the beach in Bettys Bay. A must see for Penguin Lovers.
